Small and intimate, The Cellar bar, licensed for 45, has become something of a local hangout for those wishing to distance themselves from the hubbub in the hotel above – it has the warm, cosy feel that subterranean spaces seem to create.
Available for private occasions such birthdays, anniversaries or family get-togethers, The Cellar has hosted many a memorable gathering of family and friends.
Among the features unique to The Cellar are: the old well sunk right through the floor; an archway that originally marked the entrance to a tunnel, through which stores unloaded from barges on the nearby Swan River were transported into the building (perhaps, too, the tunnel was used to smuggle grog), and the sizeable beams, herringbone-strutted and held in position with hand-made nails (rather like old-fashioned horseshoe nails). Within The Cellar, these unique features, combined with the aged brick walls, jarrah fixtures and solid brick floors, resonate with a sense of the hotel's history.
The Rose & Crown is distinguished as much by the beauty of its lovely, historic garden – established when the hotel was built – as by the quality of its fixtures, fittings, food and wine. Indeed, many would describe it as the BEST beer garden in Australia.
A stunning venue for either a fully serviced meal or just a drink and a chance to relax, The Garden has many treasures, among them magnificent roses, possibly the first to be planted in WA, and a very rare and very beautiful dragon tree.
A new addition in this space is a decked area that overlooks another, rear garden and the stables. With its own bar, water feature and misters to cool things down, this new addition is designed not just to impress but, more importantly, to help you and your guests unwind. Within these spectacular spaces, entertainment such as live jazz is a regular and popular feature.
Already, the most recent addition to the Rose & Crown, the Posh Convict bar and lounge (with restaurant behind) is a firm favourite with many hotel regulars. With an elegant fireplace, capacious lounge chairs and low tables, a subtle mood of ease and intimacy reigns. A sophisticated bar menu is complemented by an extensive wine list featuring many names from the local Swan Valley region. It's just the right place to kick back and enjoy.
